Town of Pence Monthly Meeting – August 11, 2009
The meeting was called to order by Jim Maffesanti at 7:00 p.m., followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
Roll Call: Present-Jim Maffesanti, Joe Manzanares, Mike Paternoster, Roger Gentile, Shirley Seibel
Motion of proper posting of the meeting by Mike Paternoster. Seconded by Joe Manzanares. Motion carried.
Motion to accept the minutes of the July meeting as mailed by Mike Paternoster. Seconded by Joe Manzanares. Motion carried.
Bid openings were as follows: Town Garage Electrical-Giovanoni’s bid $3,200.00 and Tom Lazorik Electric bid $2,778.94. After examining the bids, the Board decided that additional information was needed from Tom Lazorik. Motion to table the electrical bed by Joe Manzanares. Seconded by Mike Paternoster. Motion carried. Town Garage Heating – Giovanoni’s bid $5,785.00 and Mukavitz Heating bid $4,850.00. Motion to award the heating bid to Mukavitz Heating by Mike Paternoster. Seconded by Joe Manzanares. Motion carried. Kaffine Alley –Luppino bid $3,700.00 and Northwest Paving bid $2,833.95. Motion to award the bid to Northwoods Paving by Joe Manzanares. Seconded by Mike Paternoster. Motion carried.
The Town owns 4 lots along Hwy 77. Jim Maffesanti suggested that they be put up for sale. The Board agreed to put them up for sale. They will ask Dan Soine for an approximate value of the lots. Jim Maffesanti will check if the lots have a commercial zoning, and also on the sizes.
The listing on the church has expired. There was one offer made of $15,000. The Board agreed to try selling the lots on their own. Jim Maffesanti will put an ad in the newspapers and Joe will put it on the Towns website.
An application for a conditional use permit to build a seasonal dwelling on Saxon Road was received from Dale Robinson. Motion to approve the application by Joe Manzanares. Seconded by Mike Paternoster. Motion carried.
ITEMS AFTER AGENDA POSTING:
*Repairs are needed to the Town Hall ramp railing, the water fountain, a block is out of the wall, and there is water in the basement.
*Interest is no longer being paid on the general account by Associated Bank. The bank will come up with a different type of account to prevent the payment of a monthly bank charge.
*Mike Paternoster informed the Board of a broken shutoff on Maple St. It is presently full of sand. Mark Sivula suggested pushing air through with an air compressor. He agreed to take care of the problem.
*Xcel Energy will look at the gas service to the garage.
*Mike Paternoster questioned if the water meters for George Nasi and Kyle Peterson had been hooked up. Jim Maffesanti stated that they had not. He will contact Wilbur Peters about them.
*There is an oil leak on the dump truck. Jim Maffesanti will call Big Valley to see if it needs to be brought in for the first checkup.
*Joe Manzanares referenced the July meeting in regard to the dust problem. He informed the Board of a product called “Road Oil”. It might be a possibility for the future. He will check into it further.
The financial report was read by Roger Gentile. Motion to accept the financial report as read by Mike Paternoster. Seconded by Joe Manzanares. Motion carried.
The “bills to be paid” were read by Shirley Seibel. Motion to pay the bills as read by Joe Manzanares. Seconded by Mike Paternoster.
John Windt requested that the Board approve the writing of a letter to the County Board requesting that 13 acres of property presently being used by the Pence Archery Range not be sold. Joe Manzanares volunteered Shirley Seibel to write the letter. Motion to approve John Windt’s request by Joe Manzanares. Seconded by Mike Paternoster. Motion carried.
Meeting adjourned at 7:50 p.m. Motion by Mike Paternoster. Seconded by Joe Manzanares. Motion carried.
